Introduction

In the past, employees had to attend the office to complete their work; however, due to technological improvements and internet connectivity, people can accomplish many of their office tasks at home. Looking at the trend, one must analyse whether the merits of working at home are more than the demerits. I choose to look at the brighter side.

The introduction paragraph covers the scope of the essay very well. It defines the main aspects to analyse and declares the author’s view indirectly. 

Body Paragraph 1 on advantages of working at home

There are many advantages of completing office work at home due to improved internet. Firstly, workers can balance their office and personal tasks according to their priorities and urgencies. As a result, they can spend more time with their family as well as accomplish their official responsibilities. For example, since I started working from home, I spend my evenings playing with my children in our garden, which was impossible earlier when I used to go to the office. After that, I can complete the remaining work as per convenience.

Body Paragraph 1 elaborates just one point with a relevant example. The given argument is logical without many complications. However, another advantage would not harm the essay.

Body Paragraph 2 on problems and solutions of working from home

On the other hand, a few may point out some disadvantages of taking work at home. According to them, while working from individual houses, team members in an office can never build mutual trust since they cannot interact. So, at critical times, they may not function well as a team and fail the organisation. However, with technology, Human Resources practices have also improved. Employees can undertake many trust-building exercises virtually from the comforts of their homes. As a result, the teams can know each other well and will not fail otherwise. For instance, recently, during COVID 19 pandemic, all people in my organisation were forced to work from home. We arranged many team building activities for employees to know each other better. Thus, we observed increased productivity from each team player.

As expected, body paragraph 2 mentions the problems with working from home and its solution. To support the solution, the writer provides a relevant example as well. Compared to the previous essay, this essay considers the argument by the opposition and addresses it by offering a solution.

In the end, working virtually from respective houses is beneficial for workers as they can plan their day suitably. Although some may complain about the lack of coordination among employees in such conditions, employers can build trust among their employees with precautionary measures. So, I believe that working from home has more advantages than disadvantages.

Introduction

Technology has changed immensely the way we work. The advent of the internet and networking solutions has made it possible for people to work from their home instead of their offices. While some people are optimistic about the new trend, others may have a jaundiced eye while evaluating the positives. I believe in the benefits of working from home.

The author doesn’t mention the purpose of the essay in the introductory paragraph exclusively. Stating the goal in the introduction is vital so that the reader knows what to expect in the rest of the essay. 

Body Paragraph 1 on advantages of working from home

Let’s begin with advantages. Perhaps the most significant benefit is that people can work flexible hours, especially women with young children. Many of them otherwise quit their job after the birth of their children to look after them. Moreover, male employees also benefit from working from home as they can save hours from commuting to work and home back, improving their work-life balance and overall sense of wellbeing. Further, employers also benefit from this arrangement. When employees work from their homes, the cost of running the business comes down.

There are a total of three points. All of them are half-baked with awkward sentences. For example, the first couple of sentences of the paragraph could have been written as

There are many advantages of working from home. It mainly offers flexibility to employees, especially to working mothers who otherwise might have quit their jobs to look after their children. 

Still, the points are not well elaborated and lack sufficient reasoning.

Body Paragraph 2 on disadvantages of working from home

On the other hand, there are a few challenges as well. Employees working from home may have difficulty building a rapport with others in their team, creating a lack of coordination among themselves. Further, workers may find it difficult to get instant support from each other when problems arise, leading to chaos in the work schedules. Worse! This lack of apathy towards each other may also be reflected towards the customer, leading to the ultimate destruction of the company’s reputation.

Again, in the second paragraph as well, the author fails to explain the points. 

Also, all points are disadvantages that weaken the writer’s opinion and conclusion. Had they provided a point that solves the problems or disadvantages mentioned in the body paragraph 2, their position would be more convincing. 

For example, the writer could have said that virtual team-building exercises build trust in a team to reap the benefits of working from home. 

End Paragraph

To summarise, there are several benefits to working from home, including the freedom to individual employees. Many employers have already realised this and started encouraging their workers to work from home, of course, with some preventive measures against downfalls of lack of communication and subsequent disasters.
