Exid

IMO, this is Exid’s best title track yet. I understand that this tuy vậy does not sound very kpop. It’s not bubblegum pop, dance pop, some EDM mess, or even trophouse. This tuy vậy is underrated where lớn this day (international fan-wise since I don’t know what’s really trending with Koreans half the time), nobody talks about the beauty of this bop. Night Rather than Day is chill and relaxing.

Although EXID kept the sensual purplish and reddish tones in the đoạn phim and “sexy” concept from L.I.E, NRTD is quality where it’s very low-key in its sensuality & dreamy in where there’s always this slight fog or blurriness throughout the video. I think it was very ambitious & slightly brave of EXID & Banana Culture to lớn go for a totally different kind of tuy nhiên compared to what they’ve been churning out: UP&DOWN, Ah Yeah, Hot Pink, & L.I.E. Basically, EXID had the same problem Megan Trainor has: all of their songs sounded the same. But who cares.. Ah Yeah, Hot Pink, etc. Were popular anyway. So it was a nice change of pace to lớn have a nice jazzy tune.

No but seriously, I think NRTD puts into words how kpop idols have to go out at night so they’re not hounded by fans, the paparazzi, & reporters. Most kpop idols have lớn abide by an unspoken or/and written rule of NO DATING. Lots of agencies, YG for example, instill a dating ban onto their groups và soloists. This is mostly because fangirls và fanboys are batshit crazy, và will stop listening, buying, & consuming merch/music completely if their favorite idols and groups have lãng mạn relationships. It’s this notion of “these are our idols and they belong khổng lồ us” mentality.

Anyway, so EXID is constantly in this song singing about wanting to lớn meet at night, and in dark places. I mean, it could just be about how the girl just likes going out on dates at night. According lớn the song, there’s too much people, & it’s too bright during the day. Also, the girl likes a guy that pats her head and tells her goodnight, and wants to watch the moon with him. She likes how she looks when it’s darker because the lighting is more soft. All of these reasons are very, well, reasonable actually.

I’m not a kpop idol, nor vày I know one personally. But from what I can infer và understand from the countless kpop idol dating “scandals”, lots of them have oto dates, or just go khổng lồ each other’s apartments. They also go khổng lồ certain restaurants where they know and trust the owners. When they’re randomly caught và photographed, it’s always at night. The dark places & rooms EXID sings about refers to how they (EXID và their fellow kpop idols) desire privacy and space. Obviously it won’t be good if “there’s too much people” because they will attract attention a lot faster. The “it’s too bright during the day” goes along with the “ So I can look pretty under the soft lights” verse, and has two meanings. One where daylight and the sun makes the dates conspicuous. The second being that Koreans, in particular from other East Asians, really really love looking very very white.

LE is dripping hot wax on a car key, meaning she perhaps either does not want to go on a typical oto date, or does not want her lover lớn leave her
